摘要

The present invention provides a means and method for eliminating emissions from an internal combustion engine during cold and warm starts. An oxidant intake valve outside the engine head and an exhaust valve after the aftertreatment system and condensation heat exchanger are closed so that all gases within the engine and exhaust aftertreatment system are sealed before starting the engine. Oxygen and hydrogen are used as the oxidizer and fuel to start this engine and run it until the exhaust aftertreatment systems reach their required operating temperatures. This emission-free starting system works equally well with two-, four-, six- or eight-stroke engines, with single- or multi-cylinder engines and with engines with external or compression ignition. This invention also provides a means and method for cleaning the interior of an engine and aftertreatment systems of soot, particulates, and the catalytic surfaces without disassembling the engine or aftertreatment systems.
