A vacuum pump (100) having a stator (210), a rotor (200) which can rotate relative to the stator (210) to generate a negative pressure, and a dynamic axial preload around the rotor (200) relative to the stator (210) ) to preload in the axial direction of the rotor (200) at least during operation of the rotor (200) in order to preferably counteract thermal expansion of the rotor (200) with respect to the stator (210).
